The Ambassador hosts the meeting of the representatives of regions of Russia

On December 20, 2006 the Ambassador hotel hosted the annual meeting of the Committee for External Relations of Saint-Petersburg, representatives of the Russian regions' official missions and business circles to summarize the work done in the ending year. The meeting was begun by the chairman of the Committee, A. V. Prokhorenko, who complimented all the present on their successful work and stated his hopes for fruitful future collaboration.

The tendency to open official missions of the regions in Saint-Petersburg had started in 1990s and is still going strong. Today there are official missions of 28 regions of Russian Federation in Saint-Petersburg: territories, republics, autonomous areas, regions and separate cities. As a part of establishing all-round contacts with different regions Saint-Petersburg pays special attention to two specific directions of development: (1) creating conditions for the city's companies and organizations to develop existing partnerships with companies and organizations of various constituents of Russian Federation and to create new ones; and (2) drawing into Saint-Petersburg resources from various constituents of Russian Federation that are necessary for fully using the city's scientific, technical and cultural potential.

According to these priorities the regional cooperation department of the Committee for External Relations of Saint-Petersburg works towards the development of trade, economical, scientific, technical, social and cultural contacts with regions of Russia and also helps companies and organizations of Saint-Petersburg to find suitable partners in various regions.
