Veniamin Basner Evening

On 30 May, the Ambassador Hotel’s Le Vernissage restaurant hosted an evening dedicated to the oeuvre of the Russian composer Veniamin Basner on the occasion of the release of the composer’s sheet music and two CDs.

Oleg Grabko, CEO of Bomba-Piter production company, presented the composer’s new albums: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra/Sonata for Violin and Orchestra and Film Music for a Symphony Orchestra. Composer Publishers presented six chamber pieces, one symphony and a new songbook by Veniamin Basner. The evening was attended by the composer’s family, friends, colleagues and fans. Other speakers included film director, People’s Artist of Russia Evgeny Tatarsky, who chairs the St. Petersburg Branch of the National Filmmakers’ Union, and composer and conductor Yuri Falik, who is also People’s Artist of Russia.

Everyone thought the instruments sounded really great when international prize winner Vladislav Pesin and celebrated Russian musician Natalia Arzumanova performed V. Basner’s chamber pieces Poem and Scherzo for Violin and Grand Piano. Natalia Morozova, accompanied by Sergei Grinberg, performed several vocal numbers set to the poems of Anna Akhmatova. The highest point of the evening were urban romance songs by Veniamin Basner, performed by People’s Artist of Russia Liudmila Senchina. At Veniamin Basner’s anniversary celebration two years ago, someone said: “This is just the beginning… The real life of Basner’s music is about to start…Great things lie ahead…”
