Baltic Meetings meet Atveliks

The Ambassador Hotel has co-sponsored Lithuanian Ethnic Culture Days — Atveliks or Children’s Easter — as part of its Baltic Meetings initiative. On 15 April, the Ethnography Museum hosted an Easter celebration in the Lithuanian style. Guests of honor — the ALE VA troupe — familiarized the audience with Lithuanian Easter rites, songs, dances and games.

Ethnographer Vita Brazuliene taught a master class in marguchai (Easter egg) painting and making Velike, the Old Woman of Easter, from oakum. All guests learned Lithuanian songs and dances, and sampled Easter cakes sent by the Ambassador Hotel.

Background

The Baltic Meetings project, aimed at promoting business and human ties in the Baltic Sea Region, was initiated by the Ambassador Hotel in partnership with St. Petersburg City Hall Committee for External Relations.

The project officially premiered with the Baltic Evening, hosted by the Ambassador Hotel in conjunction with the External Relations Committee, attended by Consuls General of the Baltic Region states, officials from the Russian Foreign Ministry, St. Petersburg City Hall and Legislative Assembly, and members of the scientific, cultural and business communities with a vested interest in forging closer ties with the Baltic states. The Baltic Evening featured a national presentation for the Republic of Lithuania, which was very well received by the audience and the media.

So far Baltic Meetings have included an itinerary of multilateral and bilateral events such as presentations, conferences, seminars, roundtables, business forums and music concerts.
